How to Style an Oversized T-Shirt: 8 Outfits With Jeans, Leggings and Shorts

An oversized t-shirt is the easiest thing in your wardrobe and the hardest to get wrong. Still, "big tee, what now?" is a real question. Here are eight ways to wear one that work in the gym and long after, with the AESTH. back print doing the talking.

1. Oversized t-shirt with leggings (the pump cover)

The classic. Two sizes up, black high-waisted leggings, lifting shoes. Let the hem hang; the print on the back is the whole point. This is the outfit in most of our photos. (New to the term? What is a pump cover?)

2. Oversized t-shirt with biker shorts and a front tuck

Tuck just the front hem into biker shorts and let the back fall loose. You get a waist without losing the slouch, and the back print stays visible.

3. Oversized t-shirt with jeans: the half tuck

For the coffee run after the gym. Tuck one side into light wide-leg or straight jeans, add white sneakers. The tee looks intentional, not like you forgot to change.

4. The side knot (how to cinch the waist)

Gather the hem at one hip and tie a small knot. It shortens the tee by a hand's width and gives it shape over leggings or a mini skirt. Works best one size up, not three.

5. Oversized t-shirt as a dress

Three sizes up, worn on its own or over biker shorts, with chunky sneakers. Summer errands, beach days, lazy Sundays. Add a belt bag if you want a waist.

6. Oversized t-shirt with sweatpants for rest day

Oversized tee, matching sweatpants, socks pulled up. The couch outfit that still looks like an outfit. Our cat-print tees were made for this one.

7. Layered under a zip hoodie or over a long sleeve

Cold gym? Throw the tee over a fitted long sleeve, or wear a zip-up hoodie open over it. Take the layer off when the pump kicks in; the tee underneath is still the outfit.

8. Sleeves rolled, hair up, cap on

Small details that make a big tee look styled: roll the sleeves once, put your hair in a bun or claw clip, add a cap. That's it. No accessories needed; the print is the accessory.

Three rules that make every oversized tee look better

  • Balance the volume. Big on top means slim or straight on the bottom: leggings, biker shorts, straight jeans. Big on big only works as a full set.
  • Pick the right size for the look. One up for everyday, two up for the pump cover, three up for a dress. Our size chart explains the ladder.
  • Heavyweight over thin. A thick garment-dyed tee drapes; a thin one clings and goes see-through. That's why we print on the Comfort Colors 1717.

How men can style an oversized t-shirt

Same rules, different pieces: one size up over black training shorts for the gym, khaki shorts or loose cargo pants after, light-wash jeans on the weekend. Our guide to the pump cover for men has four outfits.

Oversized t-shirt FAQ

Are oversized shirts in style in 2026?

Yes. Oversized tees are an everyday basic now, in and out of the gym. A heavyweight tee with a clean front and a back print looks current without trying.

How do you cinch the waist of an oversized t-shirt?

Front-tuck it into high-waisted jeans or shorts, tie a small knot at the hip, or add a belt bag across the waist. All three keep the slouch and add shape.

What size should I get for an oversized look?

One size up for everyday oversized, two up for the pump cover look, three up to wear it as a dress. The size chart has the measurements.

What is the 3-3-3 rule for clothing?

A capsule wardrobe trick: three tops, three bottoms and three pairs of shoes that all mix together, good for 27 outfits. An oversized tee is one of the easiest tops to build it around.
